At its digitally-held MWC 2021 event, Samsung Electronics showed off One UI Watch, the latest smartwatch interface for its smartwatches. Samsung announced the new software will run on top of the new unified platform, which the company has co-developed with Google.
In a press release, Samsung has mentioned that its new Galaxy Watch will be the first device to feature the One UI Watch and the new unified platform. This Galaxy Watch is slated to come “later this summer.” Samsung believes the new One UI Watch together with the new unified platform will “create an entirely new Galaxy Watch experience.”
Samsung didn’t reveal the details on the said Galaxy Watch device but it did share details on the new interface for its smartwatches.
Samsung said thanks to the One UI Watch, the Galaxy Watch will feature support for “Auto app installation.” The aim of this support is to make the process of installing apps on your smartwatch seamless. According to Samsung, whenever you install compatible apps on your phone, they will also be downloaded onto your smartwatch.
Also, any customizations you make in the Clock app on your phone will be automatically synced to your smartwatch. Furthermore, if you block calls and messages from your watch, they will be blocked on your smartphone too. Samsung also said that the Settings layout on your watch will "closely reflect" the Settings page on your phone.
Furthermore, if you’ve customized your clock app on your phone to display the time in different cities, the same information will be synced directly to your watch as well.
The unified platform developed in collaboration with Google also unlocks new possibilities. The new software overcomes one of the shortcomings of the Tizen and that is the lack of third-party app support. Now, the new Wear OS opens up the gate for third-party apps. Samsung has shared some of these titles that will be ready for installation once the Galaxy Watch goes official. These apps are Adidas Running, GOLF BUDDY Smart Caddie, Strava and Swim.com, Couch25K, as well as Google’s apps like Maps, Messages, YouTube Music, and more.
Samsung is also bringing an improved watch face design tool, thus inviting more designers to create new watch faces.
Samsung has announced the new Galaxy Watch featuring the latest One UI Watch and the new unified platform co-created with Google will be launched at its Unpacked event scheduled to happen later this summer.
