LG has refreshed its Tone Free FP lineup of truly wireless earbuds for 2021. These come with a number of noticeable upgrades over the one that was debuted last year. There are features that you would expect from a modern pair of TWS like active noise cancellation and fine-tuned audio for enjoying your favorite tracks.
The lineup features three models named LG Tone Free FP5, Tone Free FP8, and Tone Free FP9. The earbuds stem size has been reduced with the new generation and is now 4.4mm shorter. The new design is officially called Arc Design which LG says will deliver a comfortable user experience. All three models come with noise cancellation, three microphones per earbud, and an IPX4 rating for water resistance.
The team has collaborated with Meridian Audio, a British audio company, for fine-tuning the audio experience. It also features Headphone Spatial Processing so that the listener feels like the sound is coming from all directions. There is 3D Sound Stage functionality to deliver an even more immersive audio experience.
The three microphones on each earbud are meant to deliver crystal clear calling. LG has introduced a new Whispering Mode which lets users bring the right earbud closer to the mouth and use it as a dedicated microphone. It is aimed at situations where users cannot talk loudly and have to whisper like in a library.
In terms of what makes these models differ from each other, there are a few features. The FP8 and FP9 models come with LG's germ-killing UV technology. It is said to be "tested to reduce bacteria on the earbuds’ speaker mesh by 99.9 percent in just five minutes when charging wired or wirelessly". These two further offer a longer battery life than the FP5 model and yes, the FP8 model also supports wireless charging.
LG is yet to announce Tone Free FP 2021 lineup pricing information. It will be revealed as and when these will become available for purchase in select key markets.
