Apple Watch Pride Edition bands and watch faces unveiled

26 May 2022 0

We are less than a week away from the beginning of LGBT Pride Month. Apple has been releasing special edition products to celebrate the month for the past few years and this time is no different. It has debuted Apple Watch Pride Edition bands and watch faces this year. The two bands are called Pride Edition Sport Loop and Pride Edition Nike Sport Loop.

Starting with the Pride Edition Sport Loop, Apple says it has used a new technique to remove several of the double-layer nylon-woven textile loops on the band. This reveals the word "Pride" in cursive style and the same font as the "Hello" greeting used in the first-ever Macintosh in 1984. It claims that the word has a three-dimensional look and feel to it.

The color gradient used for the band utilizes original rainbow colors with those drawn from various pride flags. These include light blue, pink, and white colors representing transgenders and gender-non-conforming individuals. It further has brown and black colors that represent Latinx and Black communities. Apple says these colors also represent those who are either living with or have passed away due to HIV/AIDS.

In the above image, you can also see the new watch face called Pride Threads. The design is inspired by multiple pride flags and mirrors the woven loops of the Sport Loop. The unique thing is that these threads move as you rotate the Digital Crown, tap the display, or raise your wrist.

The Pride Edition Nike Sport Loop is the second Apple Watch band released by the Cupertino-based tech giant. It celebrates the complete spectrum of the rainbow and has a matching Nike Bounce watch face to go with it. It is said to honor the individuals "who are expanding sport for future generations and inspiring others to feel the joy of being authentically themselves".

Apple has priced Pride Edition Sport Loop and Pride Edition Nike Sport Loop bands at $49 each in the United States. The new watch faces can be installed on any Apple Watch running at least watchOS 8.6 and a paired iPhone with at least iOS 15.5. The watch bands are compatible with all Apple Watch models.
