08 June 2022 0

Apple has announced watchOS 9 as its next-gen operating system for Apple Watch. The announcement took place at WWDC 2022 where we also heard about iOS 16, iPadOS 16, and macOS Ventura. As one would expect, the new version brings improvements to health and fitness tracking as well as insights. There are also new watch faces for those who love personalization.

The Workout app has been updated and will now show richer details about your workouts. It means you will now get more information about your workouts as compared to before. The Digital Crown can now be used to rotate between easy-to-read Workout Views. Heart Rate Zones will be shown for workouts to show intensity levels and Apple says these zones can also be created manually.

Custom Workouts is a feature where users will be able to create custom structured workout routines. You can easily add what exercises to be done and for how long along with rest durations in between. There are new alerts for pace, power, heart rate, and cadence. The app has a new Multisport workout mode where it can automatically detect sequences of swimming, biking, and running workouts via motion sensors.

watchOS 9 brings more in-depth sleep tracking insights but it still can't auto-detect you are sleeping. The biggest change included in the new software build is support for medications. It is an in-built feature for tracking medications, vitamins, and supplements. It will allow users to create medication lists, add schedules, and set reminders.

Apple has added a bunch of new watch face options for watchOS 9 users. These include a new astronomy watch face, a lunar face, a Playtime face, and a new typeface called Metropolitan. The new operating system version is available for beta testing for those who do not want to wait until the stable release.
