Apple is long rumored to be working on adding satellite functionality to iPhone but as per a new report, the smartphone is not the only product that will get the support. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has once again shared reports that the Apple Watch is another category of product that could get satellite features.
The idea behind offering support for satellites is to give users a way to send emergency messages even when in areas with no cellular coverage. The feature is internally referred to as Emergency Message via Satellite. It will let users send SOS messages to get in touch with first responders. Additionally, it will help users report incidents like shootings and boat accidents.
Gurman says future Apple Watch Pro models could be the first ones to come with satellite connectivity. It should be noted that the first-gen Apple Watch Pro is rumored to get official next month. It is said to arrive alongside the Apple Watch Series 8 and Apple Watch SE successor. It will essentially be a rugged smartwatch with a focus on extreme sports users.
The smartwatch is also reported to have a major redesign but without flat edges. There will be the biggest display ever on an Apple Watch, about 7% larger than the standard variant. The build material will be slightly more durable than titanium which will make it sturdier. The pricing of the Apple Watch Pro is said to be around $900 which will surely make it a lot more expensive.
