Google's first-ever smartwatch Pixel Watch has finally been made official. It was first previewed at this year's Google I/O and ever since Pixel fans were eagerly waiting for the smartwatch. It gives users an opportunity to buy a Wear OS smartwatch that has been developed and designed by Google itself. It previously restricted itself to the software side of things but with this release, it has finally joined the hardware side too.
The Pixel Watch comes in a single 41mm size which makes it quite compact. It sports a 1.2-inch display with Always On Display functionality, Corning Gorilla Glass 5, and 1,000 nits of brightness. There is a round dial featuring "3D domed glass" design that gives it a bezel-less and sleek look. The watch itself is made up of stainless steel which means it should be quite durable.
A physical crown is present on the right side of the smartwatch. It is a multi-purpose crown that can be used for tasks like on-screen scrolling, accessing shortcuts, and initiating the app tray. There is a side button just above the crown for quickly accessing your most used applications. This will eliminate the need for going through the app tray every time you want to open a frequently used application.
Under the hood, it has the Samsung Exynos 9110 processor which has been a common appearance among recent Galaxy wearables. The difference is that Google has opted for an additional Cortex M33 co-processor which should help it deliver improved performance. There is 2GB of RAM and 32GB onboard storage for installing one's favorite apps.
Its connectivity options include Bluetooth 5.0, WiFi, LTE, and NFC. There is a SpO2 sensor, heart rate sensor, an altimeter, and GPS for helping users with fitness and health monitoring. Google says there are 20 different watch bands to choose from which are available in various materials and textures. There is even a metal band that will become available in spring. It also has 19 customizable watch faces where users can customize aspects like complications and colors.
The Pixel Watch will boot Wear OS 3.5 out of the box. It has Google Assistant and Fitbit integrations. There is 5ATM of water resistance for those who love to swim. The battery capacity is 294mAh and is claimed to last for about 24 hours on a single full charge. Google says it can be charged up to 50% within just 30 minutes.
The smartwatch is priced at $349 for the Bluetooth/WiFi variant and at $399 for the 4G LTE variant. All buyers will get three months of YouTube Music Premium and six months of Fitbit Premium subscriptions. The smartwatch is up for pre-orders and will be available for purchase starting October 13th.
