HTC has launched a new stand-alone headset called Vive XR Elite at CES 2023. It is capable of supporting virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and extended reality (XR) experiences. The device is meant for all types of consumers including general buyers who want to have the headset for media consumption, playing VR games, and other fun experiences.
The Vive XR Elite offers a resolution of 1920 x 1920 pixels per eye which results in a combined resolution of 3840 x 1920 pixels with a 90Hz refresh rate. It has up to a 110-degree field of view and 6 DoF inside-out tracking. Under the hood, it has the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 processor coupled with 12GB of RAM and 128GB onboard storage.
There is a 16-megapixel RGB camera sensor with four tracking camera sensors. Other sensors include a gyroscope, G-sensor, and a proximity sensor. Its connectivity options are a USB Type-C 3.2 Gen 1 peripheral port, a USB Type-C 3.2 Gen 1 power port, Bluetooth 5.2 with BLE, and WiFi 6 with 6E.
The whole package is powered by a 26.6Wh battery Battery Cradle which is non-removable and hot-swappable. It is claimed to last for up to 15 hours on a single charge. There is an ergonomic grip button, analog trigger button, AB/XY buttons, system/menu buttons, and a joystick. HTC has priced the Vive XR Elite at $1,099.99 with pre-orders already live. These shipments are expected to begin sometime in late February 2023.
