When Samsung debuted the Galaxy Watch 5 series last year, it revealed them with temperature sensors which is a first for the Galaxy smartwatches. The only thing was those sensors were non-functional at the time of the launch. This is changing now with a new partnership that Samsung has announced with Natural Cycles.
Samsung says Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro users will now be able to use temperature sensors for period tracking. The new feature makes use of the smartwatch's sensor capabilities and Natural Cycles' innovative fertility technology. It says this will allow users to get more detailed insight into their menstrual cycle.
The best part is that users will not have to install any other extra app to use the new functionality. It will be accessible from within the native Cycle Tracking feature. It is the same feature that recently received the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) of the Republic of Korea approval as well as Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval in the United States.
The infrared sensor along with the new BioActive Sensor allows users to get a more detailed overview by tracking skin temperature changes as well as their menstrual cycle. The infrared technology allows the sensor to get more accurate readings even when there is a change in the temperature of the surroundings or the user happens to move while sleeping. Samsung assures all health data is encrypted and stored on the device itself.
The all-new temperature-based period tracking feature on the Galaxy Watch 5 series will be available in 32 countries starting Q2 2023. These are Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Korea, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the U.K., and the U.S.
