AirPods are currently just another pair of TWS headphones but Apple wants to turn them into a health tool in the future. This will give users more reasons to use them instead of simply listening to music and attending calls. Mark Gurman of Bloomberg has shared details about these plans in the latest edition of his weekly newsletter Power On.

Apple is working on new hearing health features for AirPods. It has a goal of releasing them in the next two years or so which means not anytime soon. This will allow the Cupertino-based tech giant to "upgrade the AirPods to become a health tool" in the future. The team event wants to get hearing data of some sort through the headphones.

The company already has two hearing health features Live Listen and Conversation Boost. However, none of these have approval from a health regulatory like Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the United States. Apple's plans for future health features include getting relevant approvals so that they can be marketed accordingly. It is speculated at least some of these new features may be expanded to existing models through software updates.

In other reports, we have heard Apple is working on adding new models to the AirPods family. There will be a minimum of two new offerings called AirPods Max and AirPods Lite. It is expected to begin mass production by the second half of 2024 at the earliest but could take more time as well. The Lite version will obviously be the most affordable AirPod with pricing expected to be around $100.
