Yesterday, with the release of Windows 10 Build 15204 for Mobile, we noted that this was the first Redstone 3 build for the mobile OS, which was surprising since the Windows 10 Creators Update has not hit the platform despite being released for PC for quite some days.
According to recent reports, the Creators Update is about to be released for Windows 10 Mobile. However, only a limited range of devices will get the update, despite it being tested on many more models.
Here’s the list of devices that will be getting the update:
- HP Elite x3
- Microsoft Lumia 550
- Microsoft Lumia 640/640XL
- Microsoft Lumia 650
- Microsoft Lumia 950/950 XL
- Alcatel IDOL 4S
- Alcatel OneTouch Fierce XL
- SoftBank 503LV
- VAIO Phone Biz
- MouseComputer MADOSMA Q601
- Trinity NuAns NEO
Devices not on this list, especially older devices like the Lumia 830 and 930, will not be getting the update. According to a blog post by Microsoft’s Dona Sarkar:
Devices not on this list will not officially receive the Windows 10 Creators Update nor will they receive any future builds from our Development Branch that we release as part of the Windows Insider Program. However, Windows Insiders who have devices not on this list can still keep these devices on the Windows 10 Creators Update at their own risk knowing that it’s unsupported.
If you somehow have the Creators Update on a device not listed above, then you will have to use it at your own risk. It must be frustrating to see the update only coming to an exclusive set of devices. Microsoft needs to make a much better effort in customer support if its wants the mobile OS to compete with the likes of Apple and Samsung.
