Xiaomi released the global version of its MIUI 9 as a global rollout earlier this month after weeks of beta rollouts and nightly updates. The ROM was announced earlier this year with several optimisations and came as an out-of-the-box firmware in the Mi 6, Redmi Note 4X & the Redmi Note 5A which came a little later with 5.5-inch display & 13MP camera.
Two weeks after arriving to global units of the Mi Max 2 & Redmi Note 4, MIUI 9 is now being rolled out to Xiaomi Mi 5 & Mi 5s Plus, bringing a new interface along with several performance tweaks for both these devices. The update brings support for search inside Dual apps and a new switch under the battery saver now gives users enhanced access to controlling the devices’ battery.
There are new themes and cards that display holidays in Russia inside the Calendar app while a few app icons get an animated touch in the UI’s default theme. The update adds fixes towards a few earlier language support issues faced inside the Camera app and there’s a proper folder cleaner with improved system decryption speed.
The MIUI 9 comes as a 571 MB update on the Xiaomi Mi 5 as build version MIUI V188.8.131.52 NAAMIEI, while the update with almost the exact same features comes as 1.3GB large build MIUI V184.108.40.206 NBGMIEI on the Xiaomi 5s Plus.
