Yeelight, a Chinese company that entered into a new stage of its development back in 2014 as a result of Xiaomi’s Angel round of investment has now come up with an interesting smart speaker.
Called as the Yeelight Voice Assistant, the device looks similar to Amazon Echo Dot. The one coming from Yeelight features 5 buttons on the top side, these are an action button, microphone, on/off button, volume up button, and volume down button, just like the Echo Dot. And, the additional button in the center puts the speaker in the mute mode, something Echo Dot doesn’t feature but its larger model Amazon Echo does feature it.
However, unlike the Amazon smart speakers, Yeelight’s Voice Assistant may come powered by Microsoft’s Cortana. The support may have been added as an outcome of the partnership of Xiaomi and Microsoft. The device comes with six microphones and a single 2-watt speaker. It has an advanced voice wake-up algorithm that can switch ON the device within the range of 5 meters. Also, the advanced Acoustic Echo Cancellation (AEC) and Beamforming technology together reduce the echo.
It comes with Dual AI systems that are responsible for controlling other smart home products from Xiaomi, such as smart LED, bulbs, table lamps, bedside lights, etc. The company has reportedly said that the support for more devices apart from Xiaomi’s smart home devices will soon be added.
Yeelight Voice Assistant is powered by a 64-bit Cortex A53 quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GH and coupled with 256MB RAM and 256MB flash storage. Connectivity options include 2.4GHz and 5GHz Dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Low Energy (LE).
Currently, the Yeelight Voice Assistant smart speaker is listed on the company’s crowdsourcing platform for 199 Yuan, which currently converts to $30. The device may start shipping from January 31st in China.
